Happy Easter!
It’s almost Easter and I’ve been feeling nostalgic. My adoptive Mom was Polish and at Easter time she made a beet and horseradish relish that we called “Kassan”. I have no idea how to spell it.

katzenjammer —1. Hangover2. Distress; depression3. Confusion; clamor; uproar. Etymology: from German, from Katzen, plural of Katze (cat) + Jammer (distress, wailing). I’m going to find a way to throw that word into my conversations wherever possible… Newsflash!Another independent bookstore bites the dust! J O’Donoghue Books in Anoka will be closing in February 2011. Damn you e-books! But I…
I read something the other day that said one of the most important things to do with a creative endeavor is to be authentic. Quit trying to please people by striving to figure out what they like or want or need. Stop trying to be popular! Quit reading self help books on how to be…
Van Camping Preparation When I began planning my van camping trip, the weather was not what I typically seek for outdoor playtime. The temperatures didn’t look so bad (between 50 and 65 degrees (F)); it was the prediction of rain and high winds that made me frown. But if you wait for perfect weather in…
It’s beginning to look a lot like fall. Leaves are starting to yellow slightly. Maple leaves are starting to redden. Poison Sumac sure is pretty at this time of year. Leaves cover our usually clear path. Sit break. We’ve been going through a dry period again and the river shows it. However fall like it…
The world is mud-luscious and puddle-wonderful. — E.E. Cummings, poet (1894-1962) Such crazy weather this summer — lots of rain, sticky hot, then shiveringly cool, knock-you-over winds that come out of nowhere, then sunshine, blue skies and peace. Here’s a sample of clouds from last Thursday where the weather wasn’t quite sure what it wanted…
About a year ago, I started drawing. It all started with this journaling group that meets once a month at a coffee shop, led by Lynn Fisher. When I saw the notice about the journaling group in a newsletter I thought, hmmm… I like to journal, but what exactly would a group of journalers do…

Happy Easter to you!
I love this:
“My aspirations have come down a notch or two but I haven’t given up on my cowgirl dreams”
It caught my eye of course, because I’ve just had my first novel published, called “Cowgirl Dreams.” It’s based on my grandma who rode in MT rodeos during the 1920s. I grew up on a ranch & rode horses, but never aspired to be a rodeo rider!!
Enjoy your horses.

Having two different horses to ride keeps you on your toes. It sounds like you know them and their needs very well, I am sure you are very successful with them.
I liked the old picture. Traditions are great, even if you are the only one that eats the relish! 🙂 Hold them dear to your heart. (The traditions, not the relish, LOL!) Have a hoppy Easter!
What a great post Mary! I hope you had a very happy Easter… and hope see you soon. The relish sounds delicious, BTW!
Did you draw at the zoo?
Happy Easter! Sounds like you had a great time in CA. 🙂
I *love* those undercoat rake brushes…I wish I had discovered them 15 years earlier as my prevous dogs (Akita and a Flatcoated Retriever/Belgian Malinois or Tervuren mix) would’ve LOVED them….
Dog brushing story for you…Streak had never been brushed before, so getting her used to the idea was pretty fun. She no likes it but she is CERTAIN the white downy Streak undercoat is really gutted toy fluff and tries to play with it and separate it & spread it all over the house with enthusiasm. Gotta love those crazy dogs. 😉
