First Birthday Without a Cowboy Poem
My birthday was on Tuesday the 24th. I suppose birthdays are supposed to be a happy time but I felt kind of down.

Latte hurt her leg doing something yesterday so today became a day to try and keep Latte subdued and catch up on some of my errands. I took the Brew Babes (my new nickname for the pooches) to Petsmart. I think they should add a fitting room to their stores. My girls were very relaxed…
Fathers Day Poem It was always kind of hard To find a Father’s Day card. Nothing on the shelves seemed to fit the mold,When you meet your Dad when you are 40-years-old. No “Thanks for being there.” or “I learned so much from you.”Just a simply “I love you” is all I could do.I’ve been…
Give Me a Break Exhaustion Drips off me Puddling Onto the floor Another mess To clean up This is not a literal poem as you might be thinking. There have been no puppy accidents for at least two days. She’s getting much better at not peeing in the house and she hasn’t pooped in the…
(My beautiful sister and I) I Gotta Be Me I put one foot out As if to step forward Holding out One treasured Piece of self In cupped hands I pray for Sweet welcome Another feather In my boa The other foot Lifts Stands in transition One more Gift pulled From my basket Another day …
My chicks are a bit stressed from the long, bumpy ride home. Why is it we never notice how terrible a road is until every bump creates a frantic, harried, shrill chirping? One of the Buff Orpingtons is ESPECIALLY LOUD! I think they wore themselves out and thus, the photos are a bit drab but…
Thankfully there’s always another chance to love, to live, and to get it right, until the day we die. — Maery Last Thanksgiving, I was at my Dad’s with my siblings — holding his hand, talking to him, hoping he heard me say how much I loved him and how sorry I was we hadn’t…

Happy birthday, Mary…I’m so sorry about the loss of your dad. Especially since you only had a few years getting to know him. What a handsome man he was! You must relish being able to revisit the cards and pictures…what a gift to have had the time you did, even if it is bittersweet because it was so short. Sending lots of good thoughts your way and hoping you had a lovely day with your beautiful Java and adorable Murphy and Luke 🙂
Sending birthday howls and whinnies,
Sue and the gang at DVR
Happy Birthday Mary. I found you through Dream Valley Ranch (Sue). Your Dad’s poem was terrific and I am so glad you found him. My last name was Olson before I got married. I will have to read back in your blog to learn more about you.
Sue – Thanks for your note. I do have lots of good memories from the time we did have together.
Lori – Glad you dropped by. I’ve taken a look at your blog and want to check it out more thoroughly. Looks like we share many similar interests.
Mary,
I was out of town for your birthday but Happy Belated Birthday. You’re lucky to have had time with your dad and to have those cards as memories.
I lost my mom many years ago but certain events still bring me to tears from missing her. Barack Obama’s election was one of them. Who’d have expected that?
Happy birthday!
